Today HB 56, Emergency Personnel Recording Amendments, passed in the Utah Senate and is off to the Governor for his signature making the bill law. This has been a long time coming. It is a wonderful bill that will help paramedic firefighters and first responders in their training. It protects audio recordings that they may make of their work to revive people for use in training. In other states where this has been implemented, a noticeable spike in the survivability rate as been seen. This bill has always been about helping our first responders save more Utah lives. I’m very proud to be the sponsor of such a great bill. I’m grateful to Brandon Howard, a Lehi resident and paramedic firefighter, who brought me this issue and has been a wonderful advisor throughout. I’m also grateful for the help of Senator Jake Anderegg who served as the Senate floor sponsor of the bill. I hope and pray that Utah firefighters and other first responders will continually be blessed for their work and that they may always be safe.
