First! Linda and I would like to wish each of you a happy Thanksgiving! May you each have a wonderful day with your family and friends.
Last Wednesday was the last interim session for the 2016 Legislative Session. I was able to attend and participate in some important briefing meetings and committees in conjunction with the upcoming 2017 Legislative Session.
In the morning I attended a workshop hosted by the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), which is a group governed by the Board of Regents and comprised of Utah’s eight public colleges and universities. Each of the university/college members presented on topics such as, the key players in higher ed, financing of higher ed, performance funding, buildings in higher ed, the role of community colleges and CTE, the role of graduate programs and research. With many Utah Valley students attending UVU, it was good to receive a briefing in several important areas related to higher ed.
Here are a few brief summaries of some of the committee meetings I attended:
I was able to sit with Representative Anderegg on the floor during the special session. It was an awe-inspiring opportunity. I look forward to taking my place in House Chamber in January. I was able to get a few photos of Representative Anderegg casting his final House vote. I appreciate all that Representative Anderegg has done to help me hit the ground running come January.
During the session, the House passed the following bills:
HB4001, Solid Waste Amendment, and HB4002S01, Class B and Class C Road Fund Amendments.
I want to hear from you and understand your issues. I will be sending out a survey before the session begins, but that is not the only way to let me know your opinion - please contact me. The Utah Constitution says, "All political power is inherent in the people." Your voice will be heard.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
