The Referendum: A grassroots effort at its finest

I am so impressed with how the people of Utah organized for an essential cause in such a quick and effective manner. It appears likely enough signatures were gathered for a referendum to be placed on the November ballot for voters to decide to overturn SB2001, Tax Restructuring Revisions, or not. I voted for the bill, but I could not be more impressed and encouraged by this grassroots participation in our constitutional right to be the voice of our state, our republic, and, more importantly, to hold accountable our legislature and elected officials.

The voice of the people is one of the fundamental values of our form of government; the people have the right to redress their disagreements with the government. And today, it is clear the people have rightly and fully participated and expressed their wishes. I am energized and proud of this effort and hope and encourage continued participation in the legislative process on this and many other policies and issues. It is now time to work together to address the problems facing the people of this great state.
