|
|
Hello House District 52!
This is Rep. Cory Maloy. The 2026 General Legislative Session is officially underway, and I am honored to continue representing you at the Utah State Capitol as a member of the Utah House of Representatives.
As the 45-day session begins, the Legislature has started the important work of reviewing legislation, assigning priorities, and engaging in serious policy discussions that will shape Utah’s future. This is a focused and demanding period, and I remain committed to approaching it with diligence, preparation, and respect for the people I serve.

Week 1 Legislative Update
|
|
At the start of this General Session, I want to reaffirm my commitment to responsible governance and to the principles that guide my work: public safety, fiscal discipline, election integrity, and laws that are clear, fair, and consistently enforced.
One of my primary legislative priorities this session is strengthening public confidence in Utah’s elections. Utah has earned a strong reputation for election administration, and preserving that trust is essential to a healthy democracy.

|
|
To that end, I am sponsoring H.B. 209, Voting Amendments. This legislation is designed to ensure that only United States citizens participate in Utah state and local elections, while remaining fully compliant with federal election law. The bill establishes a clear distinction between federal and state elections, allows continued participation in federal races as required by law, and implements a phased and orderly process for verifying citizenship in state elections. The objective is transparency, clarity, and continued confidence in election outcomes.

During the 2026 session, I have been assigned to serve on the following committees:
- General Government Appropriations Subcommittee
- Chair of House Business, Labor, and Commerce Committee
- House Government Operations Committee
Committee work plays a critical role in shaping legislation, and I take these responsibilities seriously.
This session, I am sponsoring legislation addressing election integrity, public safety, healthcare access, and administrative clarity, including:
- H.B. 14 – Behavior Analyst Licensing Amendments
- H.B. 52 – Tribal Endorsement of Utah Driver License Amendments
- H.B. 99 – Eyewear Sales Tax Amendments
- H.B. 101 – Firearm Background Check Amendments
- H.B. 209 – Voting Amendments
- H.B. 246 – Local Government Drug Testing Amendments
- H.B. 269 – Ambulance Provider Payment Amendments
- H.B. 284 – Murder Offense Amendments
I will continue to provide regular updates throughout the session as these bills move through the legislative process, along with summaries of key votes and developments at the Capitol.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me or my intern, Ian, with any questions or comments you have.
Thank you and have a great week,
|
