Final recap video of the 2020 Utah Legislative Session

The 2020 Utah Legislative session has come to a close. It was an interesting 45-days. Some of the highlights included significant legislation on the pro-life front, protecting Second Amendment rights, protecting law enforcement, and one of the most significant pieces of legislation included two bills related to education funding. One bill creates a process to provided on-going growth and stabilization of the education fund based on student growth and per pupil funding even in times of economic downturn. The proposal requires a Utah Constitutional change and only goes into effect if the people of Utah pass it in November.

Some interesting facts related to the session:

• There were a total of 1,331 requests for bill files.

• 832 bills House and Senate were introduced

• 510 bills passed the legislature

I also sponsored the following bills that did not pass the legislature:

• HB271 - Firearm Preemption Amendments (Passed the House, blocked by the Senate who would not hear any firearm related bills)

• HB461 - Driver License Suspension Amendments (Came close to passing in the final minutes, but session ended before it could pass)
